‘Fragrance of Hope’ Blooms at Nagum Secondary as 57 Graduate

Nagum, East Sepik – Tears, laughter and strong words of encouragement marked the 5th Grade 12 graduation of Nagum Secondary School on Sunday, 28th September, 2025 held under the inspiring theme “Fragrance of Hope.”

A total of 57 students proudly received their certificates, witnessed by a line-up of high-profile dignitaries who urged them to carry the torch of discipline and purpose into the next chapter of their lives.

Passam National School of Excellence Principal, Mr Samson Pitiki, attended as Guest of Honour, delivering a powerful keynote stressing academic integrity and resilience as the foundation of true success.

•    Sister Janifer Daniel – Deputy Principal, East Sepik College of Nursing

•    Mr Raphael Borungai – Technical Advisor for High Schools, East Sepik Division of Education

•    Mr Lancedown Wirise – Education Director/Secretary, SDA Mission

•    Simona Ouyoumb – Senior Archivist, NBC Wewak

•    Mr Dipson Yehisembi – Director, Cooperative Services ESPHA

•    Mr Ray Kavi – PNC Chairman

•    Miss Jasmine Tom – School Burser

•    Mr Sabma – Ward Member for Japs

•    Mr Bruce Magiar – School Principal

The ceremony was confidently steered by MC Minister Toulik, who maintained order with light humour and spiritual reflection throughout the program.

Graduates singing a special song that go in line with the theme. Title: Educated through God's provision.

Dux Awardees:  Science Dux Awardee was given to Jeptha Awai and the Humanities Dux Award was  presented to Mr Joe Philemon, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

Notably, school officials acknowledged that in past editions, the Dux title traditionally went to Science students only, making Philemon's 'achievement a proud break in tradition.

Sepik Mission President Pastor Monape challenged parents and leaders not to “end their responsibility at the certificate,” saying true education must be followed by moral guidance at home and in community life.

School Principal Mr Magiar praised the graduating class for enduring infrastructure limitations and resource struggles, saying their perseverance was proof that “hope, like fragrance, spreads even in harsh environments.”

As students marched out to applause, one parent was heard whispering, “This is the scent of tomorrow.”
